As we bear witness, our democracy has been thrown in the dumpster, and our streets are being militarized as this administration grabs for power and pushes toward authoritarian rule.

RESIST.

Conflict

When some people mourn, others cheer but we all suffer. Let's recognize the humanity in everyone even if we don't agree and even if we are weaponized against one another. Our future cannot be predicted, it can only be determined by God's will.

Empathy now

We are living in the best of times through the worst of times. I see and hear what's going around me and all of us are in despair. We want things to change but we have no clue how to make it happen. The evening news reminds us of how fragile we are. As we try to numb the pain it never goes away, it just takes another form. As we suffer in silence, we lose hope but carry on. Understanding of our neighbor's struggles go out the window because we too are hurting.

The genocide continues

Kids are starving, mothers and fathers are dying. Ethnic cleansing is happening at the hands of Israel.

Be free

I consider myself a pretty easy going individual. When things don't go my way, I am pretty good at seeing the Brightside. So, I'm an optimist. The world around me is in an uproar and all things considered my view remains that we live in a time and place that is unique although our past dictates our future. We have climate changes that are unprecedented which is forcing some very tumultuous weather occurrences. Our political landscape in America is not very land of the freeish. It seems like the very opposite for many of our neighbors and friends. I was born in America to two black American parents, and I was raised knowing our history and who we are the descendants of. My grandparents were very optimistic people even though they had many reasons to not be. They lived through some of the worst times for black Americans. They lived through it all and told me about it, but not everything because I was too young to understand.

Harmless things

We have a lot pulling at our attention all the time. Some things deserve it and some don't. As I've grown older, I have become more intentional about conserving time and energy. I often remind myself that I have very little time for nonsense and my energy is even more finite. Time suckers can be harmless and may cause no real damage but they take me away from something. Something more meaningful, something that matters.

Belief in the unseen

Every day I come across so much content geared toward change and leveling up. There are industries geared toward creating a life by design like one that's been around for ages, the self-help industry. I have taken a lot of advice and listened to the podcasts and read the books and they all pretty much say the same thing. Change is hard. Changing oneself takes a lot of inner work, time and energy.

This "new world" I call home

Patriotism is more than setting off fireworks and taking the day off.

It's about believing in the VERY country my ancestors were taken to. Well, kidnapped and taken to.

The relationship I have with this place is a strange one. As we approach July 4th, I begin to question all the reasons why I love this country. I see through all its faults and misdeeds.

So, my patriotism does not show up in the form of an elaborate display of flag wearing or social posts. It's much more subtle. I'm thankful the ones in power have allowed us all to share the same freedoms even though those who came before me had to fight and some died for it.

"You should know that your money and your children are a test, and that God possesses a great recompense. O you who believe, if you reverence God, He will enlighten you, remit your sins, and forgive you. GOD possesses infinite grace."
